ABOUT US.
OUR STORY
Brian and Ginger DeShazo are native Oklahomans who have chosen to remain in Oklahoma to finish raising their 4 kids after Brian retired from the military. Brian served as an Engineer Officer in the US Army and served on 5 combat tours and many other missions. Brian retired from the Army after 28 years of service as a Lieutenant Colonel. After taking off the uniform, Brian struggled to find his calling for the second half of his career.
Brian and Ginger have always had a passion for the outdoors and a love for animals. They dreamed of owning their own farm to provide them the space and freedom to pursue larger-scale gardening and more animals. Their dream came true in 2019 when an unforeseen opportunity came their way to purchase a 20-acre farm from some friends. Brian loves gardening and wanted to expand his garden size in order to provide crops for others as well as his family. Ginger has a passion for cut flowers and wants to pursue a cut flower farm. She finds great satisfaction in creating pretty bouquets and flower beds but has even more passion for sharing this beauty with others. So, the farm life began.
Ginger was the initial instigator in getting chickens for the farm. One day, after talking with some family members who were looking to get rid of some hens, Ginger came home and told Brian that she had chickens on the way and that he needed to do something about a coop. Brian did what any good husband would do, he called a friend to see how to build a coop. This friend told Brian that he had an old coop that he built and didn’t need it any longer. Brian went and picked it up and it serves as the main chicken coop on the farm today. It doesn’t look pretty, but it works!
During Brian’s military service, he exemplified discipline, excellence, and high standards. Okie Hatchery carries on these attributes in everything they do in their business. Producing happy and healthy chicks is the top priority for Okie Hatchery. We are committed to excellence and customer satisfaction and we will always do whatever it takes to make sure that happens!
OUR MISSION STATEMENT
Okie Farm & Hatchery is commissioned by God, as a regenerative Oklahoma farm focused on raising poultry in a healthy, ethical, and sustainable manner to provide quality poultry to farms big and small. Our pastured-raised poultry are truly raised on pasture. The mobile coops not only give ACCESS to grass, but they LIVE on grass. They are moved to new pastures daily where they have constant access to forage for seeds, insects, and grass.
OUR BUSINESS
Okie Hatchery was born out of the desire to provide local, pasture-raised poultry for our family. Of course, others hear about what we are doing and inquire about getting eggs and meat from our farm. This is a testament to the desire for quality poultry and also a recognition of the lesser quality of poultry offered by large-scale farms and sold in grocery stores. Consumers today are more educated and wiser about offering their families the highest quality food they can afford. The grocery store is limited to what they sell based on what the market offers. Our hope is that we can get our products into the local markets in order to benefit our friends and neighbors. We may not be the grower or the processor, but we can set the foundation by offering quality eggs and natural, healthy chicks in order to get that process started.
OUR QUALITY
The purpose of us starting the farm in the first place is to provide our family with the best quality food we can produce. This same quality standard goes into every product that leaves our farm. What you take home will be the same health and quality standard that we have on our family dinner table. Every chick is inspected for quality and viability. We will not sell any chicks that have genetic defects or don’t appear to be healthy. We will cull these chicks to be raised for our personal flock or as broilers. Rest assured, your chicks will be as accurate as possible to breed type, coloring, markings, breeding potential and egg quality. Your complete satisfaction with our farm and products is our number one priority. If you feel we haven’t lived up to the highest standards then contact us to discuss how we can improve our practices.
